Tourists paradise !!

London is one of those cities where even 10-14 days spent well exploring the city are not enough. With vibrant market, lively night life, high - end to mid range bars one can really call this a tourists paradise. I stayed here for 10 days and completely fell in love with the city. June is a good time to go for someone looking to shop for nice summer clothes. Days are long and thats the main parameter to make the most out of your trip. Early june would be the best time to go as later on it starts getting hot and there are no fans or acs in most of londons hotels. Make sure to check out borough market and camden markets for foodies and if you are into shopping for quirky and fascinating things. Sky bar has awesome views. The connectivity of the city is fantastic with buses running through the night and some tube lines too on weekends. Don't spend too much money on cliche touristy things like tower of London, westmisnter abbey etc as they are not value for money. I would rather recommend places like british museum and buckingham palace guard change which are free and much better.

Excellent area

Visited in July and I must say that there are many places to see in the area. There is sea life aquarium, London eye, madame tussads etc which makes it an excellent day out with the family. Plenty of food outlets to eat in also. Only downgrade is that it is expensive however in my opinion it is well worth it!

London, UK Overview

Situated on the River Thames in South-East England, London is the capital of England.  It is a port on the famous River Thames, which has played a major role in the development of the city.

A major metropolitan area and the largest urban region in the European Union, it is considered as a megalopolis of people, ideas and liveliness. This capital city is home to people of diverse origins, cultures and religion. English (UK) is the main language of communication, but more than 300 languages are spoken in the city.

London was founded by the Romans and was referred to as Londinium, and the City of London, its ancient core, still preserves its square-mile mediaeval boundaries. A major settlement for two millennia, London is counted among the great world cities and is globally acclaimed as the capital of culture, economics, fashion, politics and trade.

According to historians, merchants established Roman London as a trading port, somewhere around 47 AD, on the tidal Thames. The London Wall was built between 190 and 225 AD by the Romans, and the boundaries of Roman London were similar to those of the City of London today.

Having held the city status since time immemorial, London has gone through various tragic experiences including plague, fire and civil war.  Accommodating the headquarters of over hundreds of Europe’s biggest companies, London has the largest city GDP in Europe.

In terms of economical prominence, London is the largest financial centre in the world along with New York. The city has gained prominence in the world map owing to various contributing factors like arts, commerce, education, entertainment, healthcare, etc.

Revered for its 21st Century hospitality and specialty to attract and entertain visitors, London offers the tourist numerous options to explore from arts to sports, from films to fashion and finance.

London is home to four World Heritage Sites, namely the Tower of London, Kew Gardens, the site consisting of the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St. Margaret's Church, and the historic settlement of Greenwich, which are among the most popular tourist attractions.

The city has several museums, galleries, libraries, sporting events and other cultural institutions such as the British Museum, National Gallery, British Library, Wimbledon and several theatres.

Having five international airports, the city’s airspace is busier than any urban centre of the world.  Most of the tourists flock to the city in summer, which is the best season to visit this multi-cultural city as it features long days with mild temperature.
