The Osaka Castle, located in Chuo-ku, is one of Japan's most famous castles. In the 16th century, during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, this castle played a crucial role in the unification of Japan. The construction of the castle, which stands five storeys tall on the outside, is actually eight storeys on the inside.
The main tower of the castle serves as a history museum that exhibits artefacts that give insight into Japan's history. The first floor of the main tower is the entrance hall, with a theatre room and museum shop.

On the second floor, panels describing the basic information of the castle are on display. Here, visitors can also see the replicas of shachi, which is a tile shaped in the form of mythical ocean fish. Replica of oni-gawara that is the demon-shaped ridge-end tile is also on display.

The third and fourth floor of the castle are dedicated to Hideyoshi Toyotomi and his era. On the fifth and sixth floor, tourists can view the pictures and miniatures of the Summer War of Osaka. They can also catch a glimpse of Hideyoshi on the seventh floor of the castle.

From the eight floor of the castle, tourists can see the whole city. Osaka Castle ground that sprawls over an area of 60,000 sq. m contains thirteen structures designated as Important Cultural Assets.

Tourists can reach the castle from Temmabashi Station or Tanimachi 4-chome Station on the Tanimachi Line. Morinomiya Station or Tanimachi 4-chome Station on the Chuo Line can also be chosen for reaching the castle. Those taking Nagahori-Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line can get down at the Osaka Business Park Station.

Nice castle and marvellous cherry blossom viewing

I cannot comment about how it would look throughout the year, however in cherry blossom season, this place looks absolutely gorgeous. The walkway is lined with cherry blossom trees that will shed their petals in you as you walk under them towards the castle, a very romantic setting indeed. The castle as such is typical Japanese styled and has 7 floors to climb up to get to the top. There is also an elevator which had a half an hour waiting queue so we decided to walk up instead. Each floor has some display such as clothes, armour or scenes from its history.Once you make your way up to the top, you are blessed with wonderful views over all sides of Osaka city, a good to spend a couple of hours. There are also food kiosks outside the castle for purchasing.
