Ranked 5 of 38 sightseeing in Pattaya

Even though Jomtien Beach, in the Chonburi Province, is less than 4 kilometres away from Beach Road, Pattaya, it is vastly different. Beach Road is louder and noisier, bustling with activity, Jomtien is much quieter. The beach is a beautiful 6 kilometre stretch of clean sand on which you can lounge and relax with no worries. For the tourists that love sight-seeing, in and around Jomtien, there are many attractions that will make sure you will fall in love with Thailand.

History

The history of Jomtien goes hand in hand with the history of Pattaya. Pattaya was just a fishing village up until the 1960’s. During the 1960’s Vietnam War, American soldiers rented some rooms in the modern day Pattaya to recuperate during their Rest and Relaxation or R&R leave. At first, the village became an R&R centre and moved on to be the popular tourist destination it now is. This relatively recent history has not stopped Jomtien Beach from becoming the upmarket area of Pattaya, making it a very popular destination for tourists and locals to have a good time.

Reasons to Visit

Jomtien Beach has so many diverse attractions that everyone is happy. For the adventurous, you have water sports that will make sure you get that adrenaline pumping. It is the go to place for windsurfing in Thailand, making it a hub for other sports like parasailing and jet skiing as well. Kayaking and Kite sailing can be enjoyed at the Blue Lagoo Watersports club and cable skiing at the fresh water lake.

In case you don’t like the water as much or have done the water sports bit, very close to Jomtien Beach there other attractions that include the Nong Nooch Gardens, an internationally acclaimed landscaping marvel and enjoying the beauty of scuba diving without actually diving at the Underwater World. To be in awe of the marine life around Pattaya, is one sure shot way of making your trip memorable.

The serene and calmness of a beach is the perfect relaxed getaway you expect from a beach and Jomtein Beach does not disappoint.

Entry Guidelines

The Jomtien Beach is a public beach, so you don’t require to pay any entry charges to enjoy its beauty. Of course, there’s no guarantee you won’t succumb to paying for the scrumptious food or coconut water or to get your heart beating fast with some water sports.

Where to eat

Jomtien Beach restaurants cater to all needs possible, offering up the cuisines of the world. Jomtien is steadily becoming famous for its up market restaurants being set up in the northern side of the Jomtien Beach Road. The Glass House features high on tourists lists along with the Real India restaurant that has raving reviews. The purest way to try Thai food would be from the street stalls set up by the locals. For the seafood lovers, Jomtien Beach will be heaven with the variety available. Whether it is the street foods or the informal beach restaurants to the fine dining restaurants, seafood enthusiasts are in for a treat.

Beach filled with tourists always

The backside of our hotel ibis is the Pattaya beach from where we took a boat to the centre of the ocean, there they have anchored a long boat with paragliding gears. We were charged 500baht each for a ride of paragliding which was a good experience. Its somewhat like flying in the air even though we were geared. Then from their we were taken to our next destination in the middle of the ocean where we can go for under water diving-sea walking for a view of corals and fishes. Here they were charging 1200baht which we felt is too much as they are not providing any gears other than oxygen mask. Then our next stopover is at the other end of the beach which has more shops of souvniers, thai foods, thai shawls, and all. Then we returned back to Pattaya beach in the same boat. If you choose to go for paragliding or any of those water sports, leave your Mobile and cameras in a safe place so that it don't get wet in the water. Wear a cool light 1/2 or 3/4 pants and loose tops. Take a change over with you if you feel like changing after the rides. Do carry umbrellas as its very hot in the beach all through the day. Wear a comfortable walking beach chappels. Secure your goods cash cameras phones from the water.

A beach to chill

After enjoying water sports at main pattaya beach, we headed to jomtien beach to escape the noise and crowd of Pattaya beach. We relaxed there for a long time while enjoying delicious Thai seafood at very economical rates. Mostly, people had come there to relax with their families. The sand and water were clean to enjoy a good swim. Other attractions were good restaurants and botanical gardens located near it.

Perfect place for a lazy holiday

To reach this beach, cruises are available; do not hire a motor boat if you wish to travel at low cost. Once you reach there you can hire a scooty or travel by trucks which costs very less. If you are planning to stay for the entire day then book a bed by the sea shore. Food is available in the nearby restaurant or people do come for offering food services. You can enjoy your day by participating in water sports activities or just lay down and have sun bath.
