Ranked 6 of 57 sightseeing in Phuket

The enticing Kata Beach on the west coast of the island of Phuket is brimming with activities, restaurants, shopping avenues, a decent nightlife and ample options for stay. It is the absolute beachside holiday destination in Phuket. Less crowded than Patong Beach, Kata Beach is also favoured by solo travellers.

History

Kata Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Phuket after Patong beach. The crystal white sand, the sapphire blue sea and a small island right in the middle of the bay makes this island stand out from the rest. Kata Beach has three distinct areas - Kata Centre, Kata South with Club Med in the middle, and Kata ‘Back Road’. Kata Centre is the oldest and the busiest area among them, teeming with activities during the day and crazy parties at night. Kata South Beach is known more for the two established hotels on its bay - the Kata Beach Resort and The Boathouse. The other establishments on Kata South Beach such as the restaurants, shops and foot massage parlours are plenty but relatively new.

Reason to Visit

A perfect getaway for a family, Kata Beach offers you more than just sun, sand and nightlife. Kata Beach is favourite with children as it houses a number of attractions and activities fit for all age groups. Dino Park on Kata Beach is a one-of-a-kind set up. It is a well-designed mini golf course with dinosaurs as a theme and even has a volcano. Another artificial set up that is rejoiced by both kids and adults alike is the artificial wave surf park, a place where you can learn the basics of surfing, wakeboarding or even kiteboarding. Then, of course, there is always surfing, diving, snorkelling and rumble fish adventure on the south of Kata Beach for the venturous souls.

Karon View Point is also located just a few kilometers from Kata Beach and makes a great escape just before the sun goes down for a fabulous capture of the beach from high above. And after a bustling day, one will have enough reasons to abscond to Kata Temple for some peace and serenity. One can also opt to escape to the small island in the middle of the bay for a wonderful view of the sunset. All in all, Kata Beach makes for a perfect holiday terminus.

Entry Guidelines

Those who want to go directly to Kata Beach can take a minibus from the airport for 200 Baht, while those who would like to visit the beach from Phuket town, can take an open-air bus for 30 Baht. This bus will first take visitors to Karon Beach and will drop guests on Kata Beach for sightseeing on the way back. If one plans to head back to Phuket town at the end of the day, it is advisable to wrap up early as the last bus from Kata Beach to Phuket town leaves at 4.40 pm.

Where to Eat

One will not run short of diners and places to eat on Kata Beach. There is something for everyone. The cafes and eateries there serve cuisines from all around the world. French, Thai and Italian food have a special mention on travelogues by those who frequent these places, so one can relish some delectable food in any of the cafes and resto-bars on Kata Beach.

Water sports available, fun in selfie

Had been to this beach during my honeymoon in February 2015. Was not sure where to go for a island tour, and hence then decided on Kata Beach after a recommendation by a tour operator. This was included in a island hopping tour just had some awesome fun. There are watersports out there and a clean view of the blue sea. Had a gem of a time here with a lot many selfie pics and fun in there.

Really clean beach and good infrastructure

It was in the summer that we visited Thailand. I must say it was one of the best trip ever, the Kata Beach is very clean and overall area is developed. The nearby local thai food is also good.

Serene and relaxing place

Peaceful beach with less crowd and beautiful waters. I stayed near this beach and would recommend to all those who want to escape the crowds. The beach is not very far from good restaurants as well as small shops where you can buy souvenirs and other stuff.
