Nai Harn Beach (Rawai)

Phuket

14.6/5(1 Rating)
Ranked 10 of 57 sightseeing in Phuket

A quiet beach set next to the Nai Harn Buddhist Monastery, Nai Harn Beach is a magnet for tourists and locals who seek a tranquil retreat to get away from all the crowds. The white sandy beach is about half a mile long and the clear water is fantastic for swimming.

History

Since the 1960s, Phuket is one of Thailand’s main attractions. Nai Harn Beach, being adjacent to the southern end, has been a well-known beach. The urban spread is minimal around this beach partly due to the Nai Harn Buddhist Monastery that sits right on the beach and owns much of the beachfront and the land surrounding it, making it a quiet, tranquil place. The Nai Harn lake situated behind the monastery is a great picnic spot that has seen some development over the years.

Reason to Visit

Frequent visitors to Nai Harn love the beach’s peaceful and unspoiled nature. Comparatively less crowded than the prominent beaches on Phuket, it is more popular with couples and expats who seek some solitude. On the fun side, it has one of the best snorkeling spots on Phuket Island, in front of the Nai Harn Resort, and surfing on the south end of the beach. The permanent sand bank on the south side of the beach can give smooth rides even to novice surfers on the small swells. The northern end, however, has a beach and reef break that can generate large swells and is challenging. Equipment can be rented or purchased in the local stores for all water sports.

Entry Guidelines

A visit here is sure to take several hours with all of the attractions surrounding it, not to mention playtime on the beach. The Nai Harn Buddhist Monastery is a place that is as beautiful as it is holy and is open from early mornings to late afternoons. The visitors are expected to dress modestly and entry is free. Visiting at the right time greets people with the sound of the chanting monks from the prayer hall. The Nai Harn Lake behind the monastery is a great picnic spot that has seen some development over the years. The one-kilometre long lake is very close to the beach and has a pleasant jogging and cycling path. The centre of the lake has an island and a children’s playground on it and can be accessed from the mainland with a causeway connecting them. The lakeside is also popular for organised water sports events. The Nai Harn Beach and lake are open to visitors all day. The sun during the daytime can be pretty intense, so one must be sure to carry plenty of sunscreen.

Where to Eat

There are small beachside restaurants that serve soft drinks, beer, juices and sandwiches. Towards the south end of the beach, there are a few bamboo-and-thatch restaurants that serve Thai and seafood. To find more, one will have to go to the north-east end of Nai Harn Lake. This region has a group of bars and restaurants that offer a wide variety of food such as Thai, French, Italian, Tex-Mex and more at reasonable prices. There are also vegetarian restaurants such as the Natural Efe Macrobiotic World, Mexical Plus and DI Di Resturant on the same stretch.

Marvellous Beach

Brilliant Beauty!!We went to this wonderful beach on 28. 07. 15, Absolutely thrilled to see the color of the beach, the stunningly beautiful aquamarine colour spreading across the horizon was a fabulous treat to our eyes.Located in Rawai and very easily accessible from all parts of Phuket. Must visit for all age groups when you are in Phuket.Be careful with the children and always keep an eye on them and stay close to them when they play near the waves.
