Ranked 1 of 57 sightseeing in Phuket

The two islands of Ko Phi Phi Don and Ko Phi Phi Leh are the jewels on the crown that is Thailand’s Krabi region. Blessed with a vibrant social and natural scenery, these famed islands that make up a larger archipelago encapsulate the beauty of Thailand’s west coast.

History

Krabi’s recent history dates back to Thailand’s tourism boom which put the global spotlight on its unique terrain and rock climbing potential. It is a region known as the oldest continuously inhabited region in Thailand with prehistoric sites dating back around 25,000 years. The modern town has its beginning as in 18th century elephant kraal for the powerful Siamese kingdom.

Reasons to Visit Phi Phi

Two smaller islands linked by a narrow isthmus form Phi Phi Don Island. The eastern shore of the island boasts pretty white beaches and lush forest. Ao Tan Sai is where the boats dock and is a scene of some delightful island markets complete with souvenir shops. Most of the hotels are situated in this area. Restaurants and bars are plenty in the main commercial zone and the island’s night life is also an experience many look forward to.

Imposing and jagged cliffs form a crown around Phi Phi Leh, the smaller of the Phi Phi islands. The highlights of this island are its beautiful coral reefs and the teeming marine life beneath the clear waters. There are no places to stay on this island, which is pristine habitat for many species. A sunset boat trip and day tours are the best way to enjoy Phi Phi Leh’s picture perfect beaches and waters.

Phi Phi Leh’s Maya Bay is one of the landmark attractions of the region, an aesthetic location made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Beach. The Viking Cave is another popular site on the island. This region attracts divers from all over the world. There are diving and snorkelling spots galore around the Phi Phi Islands which give you a chance to see the precious underwater life up close.

A hill trek on Phi Phi Don’s eastern ridge will take you to Phi Phi viewpoint where you can enjoy a breathtaking seascape that makes this part of the Andaman Sea so special. The Moo Dee Bay is a reclusive getaway on the eastern coast of Phi Phi Don and you will not want to leave its white sand and emerald waters.

Attraction History

Phi Phi Don was the site of Muslim fishing villages in the mid-20th century and later became a coconut plantation. It was in the year 2000, when the film ‘The Beach’ was released, that the islands received a global spotlight and now the islands are a major stop on all Krabi tours.

Entry Guidelines

Phi Phi Don is accessible by ferry and is around 2 hours away from Phuket and 90 minutes away from Krabi. The Phi Phi Island Tours are very popular and there are many tour providers.

Where to Eat

Phi Phi Don’s commercial hub is a social nerve centre with a multitude of restaurants and bars. Make new friends from all over the world over cocktails and enjoy exploring the town streets for surprising bargains. If you are missing some of your desi favourites then restaurants like the Pirate House Restaurant serve Indian dishes along with local favourites.

Pearl in Ocean

Blue water body and White sand on beach makes Phi Phi Islands. I would a wonder of wonder. Went on cruise. Stop at Monkey Point for Scuba Diving. On the way see tall standing hills with bleak bases. As you reach by cruise roam there bare foot on White Sand. Do shopping exclusively of phuket. Have lunch. A very attractive island. Please if on cruise dont forget to collect your photographs fixed on plates on chargeable basis.

Must visit place by every traveller

The island is a world of its own and can be explored on foot. There are no vehicles. There are a lot of scuba diving places one can choose from. The underwater life is beautiful. I saw baby Sharks and Starfish apart from the unlimited schools of fish. It was my first experience at diving and it was serene! A lot of people go to Maya Beach to see Monkeys and more. One has to experience the nightlife at the crazy beach parties at the party beach and also eat the Thai Pancakes, especially the Banana Nutella one Yummm. So, the mad parties, yummy food, scenic beauty, underwater life, tattoo parlours and the Thai massage parlours, all of it make it a must visit place on every traveller's bucket list :)

Blue waters with White sand

Miles and miles of bluish green water with fine white sand on the beach. The view of the sea surrounded by the mountains on two sides has to be seen to be believed. The island is accessible by longtail boat or speed boat and it offers good resorts and hotels to stay. One can go for activities such as Scuba diving and Snorkeling.

Average tour !!

We booked out tour through local travel agents in Krabi. Though Koh-phi-phi island is famous, we didn't find anything great on the island. We had lunch on the island and it was just OK.There is market on the jetty where tourists have lunch, if someone interested in Scuba, can surely book from here.

Simply a paradise

Its a must go place for people travelling to Krabi or Phuket. There are lot of tour & travellers offering services to Phi Phi island. Try to take speed boat, the voyage itself is extraordinary. It has crystal clear water which makes it more beautiful. The Beach; snorkelling in the warm crystal waters, being surrounded by colourful tropical marine life and limestone cliffs and to enjoy a Thai lunch at a local restaurant on the island of Ko Phi Phi Don.

Best Island in Krabi to be explored by speedboat

I suggest to visit the island on a shared speed boat as it will be pocket friendly in 500 Baht you will get the tour with some other islands nearby including food at Phi Phi Island, it's a very beautiful island. I choose vegetarian food, in that itself I got so many varieties if you are a non-vegetarian then will have around 10 dishes included in your package. I suggest to take the speed boats as the ride to Phi Phi will be very bumpy and suggest you to sit in front part of the boat and with every wave you will have the best experience of flying while sitting, and if the driver of the boat is also very adventurous he will take the boat on the coming waves and you will feel the complete fun. But this ride is not for elders or small children or people with weak hearts, at times it gets scary. Since I love adventure a lot and a regular visitor of the scary rides on the Water Park and Disneyland I have visited for the scary rides so it's a yes yes for all the visitors who are adventure thirsty, so do take the speedboat on sharing basis with Indian food.

Calm and beautiful island

This is a bunch of islands which you can see in most of the movies, the ferry starts in the morning, and ends around 6 PM. An auto will take you from your hotel to the ferry and the travelling time is too much to reach this destination, The island is very calm and beautiful though.
