The Astronomical Clock was first installed in 1410. A mediaeval astronomical clock, it is the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the only one still working. Located on a side of Old Town Hall Tower, the clock dates from the 15th century.

Three main components form the clock's mechanism. One of these includes the astronomical dial, representing the position of the sun and moon in the sky, and displaying varied astronomical details.

The second component of the clock is 'The Walk of the Apostles', which is an hourly show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures. The mobile show of figures is also inclusive of the figure of Death (represented by a skeleton) that strikes the time. The final component is a calendar dial with medallions representing the months.

Made by clockmaker Mikulas of Kadan and Jan Sindel, the clock has 2 medallions with the signs of the zodiac below it. The calendar dial was added around 1490. During this time, the clock facade was also decorated with Gothic sculptures. A device used in mediaeval astronomy, a form of mechanical astrolabe of the clock is the astronomical dial.

This dial has a background that denotes earth and sky. Four main moving components surround this structure. These components include an outer rotating ring, an icon representing the sun, zodiacal ring and an icon representing the moon.

Staromestska (line A) metro enables tourists to reach the site.
