The Prague Zoo occupies 45 hectares and houses about 4,600 animals that represent 630 species from all around the world. Founded in 1931, the zoo was aimed to advance the study of zoology, protect wildlife and educate the public.

It was established in the district of Troja in the north of Prague. The zoo has played a major role in safeguarding the native Przewalski horse. Forbes Traveler Magazine has recognised the zoo amongst the world's best zoos in 2008.

Mountain enclosures in the zoo house penguins, sea lions, lions, tigers, elephants, Markhor and Ibex. The zoo also has giraffes, which can be seen roaming freely. In the children's area, kids can play in a padding pool. Farm animals are housed in the children's zoo section.

Indonesian jungle, Gorillas pavilion, Africa closely, pavilion of big cats and bird aviary are other attractions of the zoo. The zoo is home to 680 birds from over 163 species. Pelicans, otters and seals can also be seen.

Bus 112 and metro from Nadrazi Holesovice (metro C) to Troja can be availed to reach the site. Boat ride to cross the bridge over Vltava River also enables tourists to reach the site.
