Reasons to go to Scotland

1Bruichladdich, Islay, Scotland
Bruichladdich, Islay, Scotland

Built in 1881, Bruichladdich is one of 11 distilleries on the tiny island of Islay, Scotland. The smoky taste of it’s produce sets this distillery apart from the 10 other small distilleries that function on this island, where sheep outnumber humans. Apart from their precious whiskey, Bruichladdich also makes Botanist, a gin made of 22 types of ingredients, some unique to the island. A visit to Islay is an adventure on its own.

2Highland Park, Orkney, Scotland
Highland Park, Orkney, Scotland

One of the hardest distilleries to get to, Highland Park sits on the island of Orkney, which is part of an archipelago off the northernmost point of Scotland. Built by the notorious smuggler, Magnus Eunson, in 1798, the distillery has grown from illegality to one of the most award-winning distilleries in the world.

Magical Scotland

On the onset of summer in Scotland, I decided to take short weekend trip to Edinburgh from London heard so much about it, that couldn’t resist but to visit Edinburgh at any cost. So last week of June I decided to go to Edinburgh, booked tickets in Megabus, it was an impromptu vacation and train tickets were so expensive, I certainly thought of giving Bus journey a try. I tried booking hostels and hotels online but all in vain, still I was adamant to go, I made up my mind that I will manage somehow. My bus reached at Edinburgh bus station on time around 6:30 am and I started walking towards Royal Mile as there are numbers of Hotels/Hostels situated there. The walking distance was bit more but the breathtaking beauty of Edinburgh, Its architectural marvels made it like few minutes. I was so engrossed looking at buildings, I really forgot how long I came. Over the internet I circled up on High Street Hostel, so I directly went up there, asked for a bed for a night and Voila it turned out to be that they got one bed in 4 sharing room. Argh, There was no lift, I climbed up with my luggage up to third floor and to my surprise I was sharing my room with 3 beautiful teenage American girls. The hostel room was quite cozy and sunny with a huge window. After taking a short nap and freshen up I went to the mess to have breakfast, you can make your own coffee/tea/milk and in breakfast they had Cereals, bread butter/jam, fruits. Then I visited Edinburgh Castle, took hop on hop off bus tour for Edinburgh that covers most of the Edinburgh monuments.
On next day, I booked a one day tour with Timberbush Tours and Travels, their office is situated at Castle Hill and without doubt they are best at providing these 1-2 days tour to Highlands. I booked West Highlands Lochs, Mountains and Castles tour with them. The price was pretty reasonable. Journey starts at 7:30 am and they leave you in Edinburgh again at 6:30 pm. The lochs, castles which they cover during the tour are absolute delight to see. The beauty of Scotland cannot be described in words. So, I am attaching few pictures from my visit to Edinburgh and West highlands.

The Highland Experience-Scotland

An excellent tour with Highland Experience, located on the Royal Mile at Edinburgh . August was Festival time and the Military Tattoo was enthralling. The tour of the towns in Scotland included a drive through Glasgow with an overnight in a B&B in Oban called Kathmor. This B&B has been the most enchanting, cosy, clean, convenient we have ever experienced. The host were unstinting in their hospitality. We then proceeded to The Isle of Skye for the overnight. We could not spot the monster at Loch Ness so bought a fridge magnet to remind us of the cruise and all the Lochs. The "Highland Experience Tour" was with a driver called Andrew. This driver was so informative, witty and patient. He drove safely and made us all very comfortable during the 5 day tour. Visited Inveraray & Inverness & umpteen Castles enroute. Though we are vegetarians we had no problems as we were equipped with Indian veg food for our lunch stops & dinners. This tour is less expensive in comparison to famous designer ones. All were very good but Kathmor at Oban was too good. Luckily in the ten days we stayed in August in Scotland it rained once . The Royal Mile area is very absorbing & happening specially in August.
