A part of Singapore - that is beautiful, away from the big city glitter

Singapore is known for its massive man made structures and high rises. On our recent 5 day trip to the city, we thought of spending one day away from the big city madness. We had heard of pulau ubin - a small island near changi. This island is how Singapore was before all the development began. We took a bum boat from changi ferry terminal - it costs about SGD 3 per person. Ferries do not have a fixed time, they leave as soon as they have about 8 people. Although we don't really have to wait there too long. Once we reached the island, we headed to the information center, they provided us with a FOC map and marked a suggested route for us. We then hired bikes to bike around the island - about SGD 8 per person. And voila! We just went cycling across the whole island. The view point is magnificent! Also I recommend seeing sun set from butterfly hill. End your trip with a chilled tender coconut water! Please carry water, sun block, sun glasses - it gets very hot.

Singapore, as it was

Want to check what Singapore was really like? Take a short trip on the ferries from the Changi Jetty in the Changi Village(its right at the end of the road after the market). You will be transported to what Singapore of yore. A quiet village, which was originally a granite quarry and has been kept away from the urban development process. Hire a bicycle from the numerous shops at the Ubin Jetty and go for a trip around the island. Its well worth the sweat!
