History

The Thimphu Clock Tower Square is a fairly recently renovated square that is surrounded by a variety of shops and restaurants and offers the best cultural experience for tourists amidst the beautiful landscapes of the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu. The Clock Tower Square is also surrounded by luxury hotels and the ambience in the area is marked by fountains and traditional Bhutanese Mani Lhalhor.

Reason to Visit

The Thimphu Clock Tower Square is one of the most prominent tourist locations in the city. The Clock-tower itself has Bhutanese architecture and is carved with rich Bhutanese paintings. The Clock Tower has a four faced clock and is carved with dazzling paintings and flowers that make the tower much more significant. The square is situated below the national football stadium that is at the heart of the capital. The square also has a small playground for kids to play. The place also serves as a place where several cultural events like charity events, musical shows, fund-raiser events, award ceremonies, etc. are organised.
The Clock Tower Square also hosted the Indo-Bhutan car rally. The Square is also incredibly good for the city’s economy as it is surrounded by world class hotels, small shops that sell traditional goods and cultural souvenirs. The square is surrounded by small structures that are a blend of traditional Bhutanese cultural and modern architecture. The beautiful hand crafted dragon and golden paintings on the four faces of the tower are a symbol of the country being and independent dragon kingdom.

Down town attraction

In the centre of the down town, surrounded by hotels and shopping area. A good place for local shopping and knowThe local people, as many locals visit the area in the evening,There are hardly 50 shops, dealing mainly in local handicrafts,Items imported from other countries. Number of cafes and restaurants are there in the squire.
