Thimphu Chorten (National Memorial Chorten) Ratings & Reviews
Enchanting Bhutan - Nature at it's best !!!
As it is called the Land of Happiness, Bhutan truly lived it. We were welcomed by the beautiful scenic locations and the extremely warm Bhutanese people. A true nature's beauty !!!
Best to see the morning/evening prayers
Visit the Memorial Chorten in the morning or evening when most people come to pray. You will see Bhutanese people circling the Chorten with prayer wheels or prayer beads in their hands. Tourists are welcome to circle the Chorten too but make sure to do it in a clockwise direction.
Small beautiful monastery inside the city
Small but a must visit monastery inside the city premises. Worth spending some time for some good photos. When we went there was some festival happening there.
At night it's looking gorgeous, it is decorated by very colorful lights. Actually everyone have a need to visit it, both day and night.
A beautiful religious monument
The architecture of the monument is appreciable and it has got lot of religious significance for Bhutanese people as it is made in the memory of a king. Usually chortens will have mortal remains of kings or any other person important to the kingdom but this does not enshrine the mortal remains of the King, but only a picture of him. You don't have much to do here just stop at the Chorten while going to or returning from Buddha point and appreciate the beauty of its architecture, move the prayer wheels and pray, and click some nice memories. If you are staying somewhere close to Norzin Lam you can just walk to this place.
